Social Media and Me
Back in my early writing days (oh, 2012, how good you were to us; how little we realized it at the time), I was on social media a lot. Like, an unhealthy lot. I tweeted, I posted on Facebook, I visited the blogs, I did the tours. It was a great place to be as a baby writer, since there was so much to learn.
Like all good things, however, it didn’t last. That kind of long-term online activity is draining, to say the least, and I found myself reading and writing less and less as time went on. This was not good for lots of reasons, but mostly because books were the reason I was online in the first place.
Fast forward a few years, and I’ve reached a comfortable balance. I can still be found on social media, but more as a spectator than a participant. This is good. I see you! I hear you! I enjoy you! …but I’m probably not going to be as engaging as I once was.
Of all the social media options, Instagram is the one I use the most, mostly because it’s easiest and I like taking pictures of the random things in my life. So if you like pictures of candy and dogs and cats and wine (and, okay, sometimes a book or two), come join me! I’m always happy to see a new face or two.
